The µPD720102 USB 2.0 host controller claims to deliver the industry's fastest data-transmission rates and lowest power consumption levels. The device sports unique buffer memory and circuits optimized for system memory access to reduce the gap between packets of data, enabling transmit speeds approaching 33 MB/s. Low-power consumption levels, as low as 65 mA during data transmission and 100 µA during idle time, are the result of optimized clock signals and an on-chip 1.5V regulator. Samples of the µPD720102 host controller are available now, priced at $5 each. NEC ELECTRONICS AMERICA, Santa Clara, CA. (800) 366-9782.
