Designed for use in DWDM applications, a 16-channel arrayed waveguide grating and a variable optic attenutator planar integrated circuits simplify optical network system design for transmission equipment. Offering a solid-state alternative to assemblies of delicate optical elements such as thin-film filters, these ICs lower the cost of high channel-count DWDM systems for long-haul applications. They also offer solutions for new system types such as add/drop multiplexers and cross-connects being developed to support solutions for the short-haul metro markets.
