Cognizant of the increasing demand for faster data-transfer rates in mid-range telephone applications, the CMX869A V.32 bis modem chip delivers a maximum speed of 14.4 kb/s. Addressing compatibility issues, the device also supports V.32 and V.22 bis (QAM), V.22 (DPSK) and V23, V.21, and Bell equivalent (FSK) modulation schemes. A selectable auto-modem function performs data rate re-train and re-negotiation operations on V.32 bis/V.32 and V.22 bis/V.22 systems. Control and communication is via a serial interface and independent V.14 USART functions with HDLC options. In addition to modem operations, the chip provides all functions to set-up, negotiate, and perform data transfers over 2- or 4-wire systems. Available in 24-pin, plastic SOIC, TSSOP, and DIL packages the modem operates from a 3.3V supply and consumes 12 mA. CML MICROCIRCUITS INC., Winston-Salem, NC. (800) 638-5577.
