Teaming up with u-blox AG, Atmel's ATR0635 GPS receiver measures 7 mm x 10 mm and consumes a frugal 62 mW in continuous power mode. Integral power-management capabilities are capable of decreasing power to 5 mA, enabling power critical applications to operate longer without compromising functionality. The device integrates a complete ANTARIS 4 GPS receiver including ROM-based SuperSense software and full WAAS/EGNOS support within its 96-pin BGA package, eliminating the need for but a few external components. It supports serial EEPROM and provides on-chip USB connectivity that accommodates plug-and-play devices for any PC environment by emulating a standard COM port. Samples and an evaluation kit are available now. ATMEL CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 441-0311; U-BLOX AMERICA INC., Herndon, VA. (703) 234-5290.
