The PM8358 is a four-channel fully redundant 3.2-Gbit/s XGMII-to-XAUI interface transceiver that provides high-speed serial I/O for backplanes and line-side network interfaces. Developed for serial backplanes and optical modules, this flexible QuadPHY 10GX serializer/deserializer device can be used in systems implementing Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Fibre Channel, 10-Gbit Ethernet, 10-Gbit Fibre channel, OC-48 and OC-192 Sonet, and InfiniBand. The PM8358 QuadPHY 10GX is made with 0.13-µm CMOS and exceeds industry standards for jitter and reach by over 50%. Power is reduced by up to 40%. The PM8358 comes in a 19- by 19-mm 289-pin CABGA housing. It costs $45 in 1000-unit lots.
