Multilayer Switch Offers 24x1GbE, 2x10GbE Ports

Aug. 1, 2006
The SVME/DMV-682 from Curtiss-Wright packs maximum performance in one 6U VME slot.

The SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade Gigabit Ethernet multilayer switch is the densest 6U VME64x card in the embedded military and defense industry marketplace, according to Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. Designers can use the FireBlade to architect secure high-performance IPv4/v6 intra-platform networks (IPNs) or to upgrade legacy bus-based VME systems to high-performance “network-ready” switched systems. Available in 12, 20, or 24 GbE port counts, the FireBlade can deliver up to 24x1GbE ports and 2x10GbE ports in one VME slot. Each of the 24 1GbE interfaces can individually auto-negotiate 10/100/1000-Mbit/s operation in a non-blocking manner. The card’s two 10GbE ports can be used as a high-performance 10-G platform backbone, a redundant fall-over network, or an inter-switch stacking solution that can scale to higher port counts.

Four of the SVME/DMV-682’s GbE ports can optionally be configured as Fast Ethernet (10BaseT/100BaseTX) to the rear panel, GbE Ethernet (10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseT) to the front panel, or optical fiber (1000BaseSX) to the front. Each configuration of the FireBlade is available in either fully managed or unmanaged versions, either air-cooled or conduction-cooled. The card’s switched architecture enables system designers to easily interconnect boxes, compute blades, and compute nodes within platforms. It’s well suited for deploying commercial-off-the-shelf Gigabit Ethernet switching in harsh environments.
