DSLAM Backhauling Solution Offers Multi-Protocol Support

Sept. 26, 2006
Ekinops PM 1008 DC-based product combines the benefits of traditional solutions while offering significant cost savings.

A new backhauling solution for Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) networks offers increased multi-protocol support and ADM functionality. The addition to Ekinops aggregation product line is based on the PM 1008 DC, which efficiently accommodates high-capacity Ethernet links as well as ATM uplinks. This makes it well-suited for DSLAM and 3G mobile networks and for high-capacity Metro DWDM networks.

The new solution uses TDM to aggregate a combination of multiple GbE, OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4 signals over one OC-192/STM-64 wavelength. It can then employ WDM to multiplex several wavelengths on one fiber. Each wavelength on the network can aggregate multiple and different protocols including GbE, FE, Fibre Channel, OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16 and OC-192/STM-64. Multiple units can be daisy-chained to create metro rings and signals can be added and dropped at each site. Using aggregation reduces the number of wavelengths in the network and provides a lower-cost solution compared to other alternatives.
