Samsung selected Isolated Magnetic Dipole (IMD) Antennas made by embedded antenna solutions provider Ethertronics for its Ultra Edition II handsets. Ethertronics' IMD antennas are incorporated into Samsung's SGH-U300, SGH-U600, and SGH-U700 handset models. Ethertronics' IMD antennas also powered the majority of Samsung's 3G Ultra Edition handset line, which was released in 2006. The antennas allow the handsets to incorporate many features while maintaining a thin form and reducing SAR emissions, according to a company release. Ethertronics met the challenge of designing high-performance antennas for a space confined to less than 8mm in height and set back less than .5mm from the outer case. "Ethertronics' IMD Technology satisfies the handset manufacturer's ergonomic vision and carrier's performance specifications yielding outstanding RF performance and enabling a compelling form factor," Laurent Desclos, chief technology officer and vice president of business operations for Ethertronics, said in a statement. Ethertronics' antennas have also been designed into Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and Symbol handsets, as well as an innovative GPS watch from Casio and Bluetooth modules for HP notebook computers
