Eight channels have been integrated onto a T1/E1 short-haul transceiver chip, allowing OEMs to increase the number of ports supported by communications industry line cards. The LXT384 T1/E1 eight-port short-haul transceiver also supports non-intrusive performance monitoring per ITU G.772 specs, enabling system OEMs to implement the monitoring feature more cost-effectively and with less real estate than was possible previously. Among the applications being targeted by the highly integrated chip are add/drop multiplexers (ADMs), digital cross connects (DCS), synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) tributary interfaces, and microwave transmission systems. The new transceiver, together with other components made by the firm, are said to offer a complete, end-to-end solution for SONET/SDH applications. An E1-only version of the chip also is available. The LXT380 octal short-haul PCM transceiver is for ITU G.703 2.048-Mbps transmission systems, whereas LXT384 is for use in both 1.544-Mbps (T1) and 2.048-Mbps (E1) applications. Among the devices' features are a differential data receiver architecture with a high noise interference margin and operation from a 3.3V supply with 5V-tolerant I/Os. LXT384 also features an advanced crystal-less jitter attenuator switchable between receive and transmit paths. Both ICs come in 144-pin LQFP and 160-ball BGA packages.
