Claimed as the first IC to integrate a complete set of Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) functions into a single device for implementing 2.5-Gbps and 10-Gbps SONET/SDH communications equipment test systems, the VSC8109 generates and compares a 16-bit 155/622-Mbps pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) pattern. The chip can be linked to firm's multiplexers and demultiplexers to provides system designers with a simple and cost-effective tester.Targeted at the telecom industry, the device is a variable-length PRBS sequence generator and comparator that provides comprehensive serial test capability.
