Combing echo cancellation and coding/decoding functions, the T8533 is said to improve telephone line echo return loss performance by 10 dB compared to traditional echo cancellation methods. Echo cancelers eliminate the annoying echo caused by network delays and by impedance mismatches at the "hybrid", the location where telephone lines connect to a digital voice network. The chip provides programmable control of key performance parameters such as gain, hybrid balance, termination impedance, and echo cancellation.
