Staking a claim as the first 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch-on-a-chip, the BCM5680 G-Switch enables OEMs to build an 8-port switch for an end-user price of less than $200 per port. 10/100/1000 BASE-T connectivity on every port enables the device to interface to all standard Ethernet devices, from Gigabit to 10 Mbps Ethernet connections. On-chip packet buffering eliminates the need for external memory devices in the system design. By incorporating advanced layer 2 and 3 switching and layer 4 to 7 filtering, the device can receive, prioritize, and forward packets of voice, video and data at wire speed simultaneously over all eight ports. In a 400-pin TBGA, sample quantities are priced at $200 each.
