Designed for 155.52-Mb/s transmissions, the 78P2252 transceiver IC is targeted for use as the interface to fiber-optic modules for SONET OC-3 or STM-1 applications. The device is manufactured using BiCMOS technology, operates on 3.3V or 5V, and supports an industrial temperature range. A digital framer circuit interface built into the transceiver can be based on PECL, four-bit parallel CMOS, or eight-bit parallel CMOS circuits. Transmit timing can be derived from either the reference clock or the recovered receive clock. The device also includes a PLL to multiply the reference clock to the transmission frequency. Price of the transceiver in 64-pin TQFPs is $26 each/10,000.
