Touted as the industry's fastest single-chip cable modem, the CX24943 IC employs an embedded dual-processor engine consisting of an ARM9 application processor operating at up to 225 MHz and a second ARM9 media access controller (MAC) operating at up to 144 MHz. In terms of speed, the chip provides a throughput of up to 29,000 packets per second, regardless of packet size. Other features include a USB 1.1 transceiver and both downstream and upstream PHY technologies. In addition, the chip is supported by reference designs, which provide DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 1.0/1.1 compatibility. Delivered in a 17 mm2, 228-pin PBGA, price is $26.50 each/10,000; supporting reference designs are also available. CONEXANT SYSTEMS INC., Newport Beach, CA. (949) 483-1148.
