The PBM 990 90 baseband controller is based on a scalable Bluetooth 1.1 compliant core combined with an ARM7 TDMI processor and an AMBA bus. It supports up to seven slaves, making it suitable for both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint applications. Features include comprehensive I/O, 64 KB of on-chip RAM, an external bus interface, variable input frequency, and data security. The external bus interface allows the system to be extended with the addition of peripheral devices and various memory types. Connection to the host-controller interface (HCI) is via two UARTs or a USB port. One UART supports connectivity up to 921 kb/s while a second can be used at up to 230 kb/s. Optional connectivity can be provided by up to 10 general-purpose I/O ports. Other features include support for high-level encryption through ciphering keys of up to 128 bits, support for PARK, SNIFF and HOLD connectivity modes, and system-power management.
