With its Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface and new architecture, the USB97C210 controller IC is said to make quick work of transferring large amounts of data , such as MP3 and MPEG files, to CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, and MultiMediaCard memory cards, as well as to ATA Mirodrives. Memory card readers incorporating the chip can be used to boot a PC from the memory card. The Hi-Speed USB 2.0 multi-format memory card controller consists of a USB 2.0 PHY transceiver and serial interface engine (SIE), data buffers, a 8051 µP with expanded scratchpad and program SRAM, and dedicated controllers for each type of memory card. The USB97C210 is compatible with Windows ME and XP and OS10 mass storage class drivers. The IC comes in a 128-pin TQFP is priced at $7.50 each/100K.
