Expanding the QuickPCI family of secure, programmable master/target PCI bridge devices, the QL5632 integrates 32-bit, 33-MHz master and target PCI controllers with a configurable DMA controller. The new device targets applications requiring data transfers between the PCI bus and video compression/decompression, encryption/decryption, packet processing, and DMA sub-systems. Other QL5632 features include an on-chip FPGA and support for BIOS-controlled bus enumeration that keeps the device's configuration, even when power is off. In terms of design security, the chip employs ViaLink FPGA configuration technology that uses vias between metal layers for interconnection purposes; it requires no external configuration EEPROM. This approach is said to prevent reverse engineering, cloning and copying. Available in 280-pin PBGAs and 208-pin PQTPs, the new PCI bridge chip is priced at $21 each/25K.
