With a common-mode voltage range from –20V to 25V, the SN65HVD2X family of RS-485 transceivers is said to surpass TIA/EIA-485 requirements by more than double. The devices are claimed to be the industry's first extended common-mode RS-485 transceivers and are said to provide the greatest level of protection against noise and fault conditions available. The ICs perform bi-directional data transmissions on multi-point twisted-pair cables, with the SN65HVD23 and SN65HVD24 employing receiver equalization technology and delivering data rates up to 25 Mb/s and 3 Mb/s over cable lengths up to 160m and 500m, respectively. For interconnecting networks with up to 64 nodes, the SN65HVD20 operates at data rates up to 25 Mb/s, while the SN65HVD21 and SN65HVD22 integrate driver slew rate control up to 5 Mb/s and 500 kb/s, respectively; both can also accommodate up to 256 nodes. Features common to all devices in the family include I/O bus protection beyond 16 kV based on the human body model and a standby current of 1 µA maximum. In eight-pin packages, the SN65HVD20, SN65HVD21 and SN65HVD22 are available now priced at $1.93 each/1,000.
