Hoping to further propel demand for devices equipped with GPS technology, the highly integrated UPB1008K RF receiver is a single-chip, double-conversion RF-to-IF I-Q frequency translator that provides a complete RF front end for GPS systems. The device integrates a low noise amplifier, VCO, PLL, IF AGC amplifiers, I-Q demodulators, I-Q IF amplifiers, and two-bit A/D converters in a single, 36-pin QFN package. Capable of interfacing with a wide range of baseband devices, the receiver operates from a 3V supply, making it compatible with lithium battery designs and it can share the power supply with other devices in the system. The on-chip a/s converter delivers a 132-MHz pseudo-baseband output that is compatible with CMOS microprocessors. Other features include a 45 dBc AGC range, power consumption of 50 mW, and a power-save function. A reference design is available that includes the receiver and the Opus One SoC baseband ASIC from eRide. Price for UPB1008K is $3.95 each/10,000. CALIFORNIA EASTERN LABORATORIES, Santa Clara, CA.
