Operating at speeds up to 20 Mb/s, the SP1485E exhibits typical transmitter and receiver skews of 2 ns and 5 ns and propagation delays of 20 ns and 30 ns, respectively. The device drives up to 32 transceivers on a bus and provides ±15 kV of ESD protection on its I/O lines. Powered by a single 5V supply, a fail-safe function at the receiver inputs ensures logic-high outputs when the receiver inputs are open. Other features include a differential driver output of 1.5V with a 54 ohms load, typical supply current of 900 µA, multi-point transmission capability on long and noisy buses, and current limiting for driver-overload protection. Available in commercial and extended temperature ranges in 8-pin NSOIC and PDIP packages, prices start at $1.75 each/1,000. SIPEX CORP., Milpitas, CA. (408) 934-7500.
