\[July 19, 2006\] Based on a 90-nm CMOS process, the company has unveiled what it calls the industry's first dual-band ultra-wideband (UWB) RF transceiver core. Optimized for mobile devices, the transceiver core supports the 3 GHz to 5 GHz band and the 6 GHz band up to 9 GHz as defined in the WiMedia band plan. It suits both Certified WirelessUSB and Bluetooth-over-WiMedia Ultra-Wideband systems. In addition to applications in mobile devices, the transceiver is also viable for deployment in PCs, printers, DVD drives, TV sets, and other consumer electronic devices. A single-chip CMOS UWB device, including a MAC, PHY and RF transceiver, based on WiMedia UWB specifications is expected by mid 2007. INFINEON TECHNOLOGIES AG, San Jose, CA. (408) 501-6390.
