Available now in 32-pin QFN packages, the TRF7960 family of multi-standard radio frequency identification (RFID) readers operate at a frequency of 13.56 MHz and measure 5 mm x 5 mm. The devices support ISO/IEC 14443A/B, ISO/IEC 15693, and ISO/IEC 18000-3 standards and the company's contactless commerce and Tag-It portfolio. To maximize read range and reliability, they integrate linear voltage regulators, which turn up the analog, digital, and power amplifiers, to provide power-supply-noise isolation. A dual-receiver input configuration detects amplitude and phase modulation, helping to eliminate read holes created when antenna orientation changes. The devices operate on a supply voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V and consume less than 1 mA in power down and less than 120 mA in standby. Other integrated functions include error checking, data formatting, framing, and anti-collision support for multi-reader environments. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 962-7343.
