Stuffing all necessary WiMAX functions, from the transceiver’s differential inputs and outputs to the antenna, into a 36-pin, 8 mm x 10 mm multi-chip module, the 2.5-GHz SKY77258 front end easily sets up shop in cellular handsets, smart phones, notebooks, and PDAs. The power amplifier exploits the company's indium gallium phosphide heterojunction bipolar transistor technology, while the switch relies on pseudomorphic, high electron mobility transistor technology. The module specifies a linear POUT of 24 dBm at the switch output, paired with a P1dB of over 35 dBm to support the high peak-to-average ratio needed for multi-carrier WiMAX signals. Additionally, the package is RoHS compliant. The SKY77258 will be available for sampling in the second quarter of 2007, with volume production scheduled for the second quarter of 2008.
