The DS26519 debuts as the industry's first 16-port T1/E1/J1 long- and short-haul transceiver and, with that number of ports, it offers what may be the highest integration to date. The device also promises to save space and cost by eliminating the need for mechanical relays common to redundancy protection applications. It employs hitless protection switching to provide redundancy protection by presenting a high impedance at the transmit outputs and receive inputs when power is absent. Additional space and cost savings are provided via software-selectable, internal receive- and transmit-side termination for 75Ω E1 coaxial, 100Ω T1 twisted-pair, 110Ω J1 twisted-pair, or 120Ω E1 twisted-pair applications. Available in a 484-pin, 23 mm x 23 mm HSBGA package, price starts at $69.96 each/5,000. DALLAS SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Dallas, TX. (800) 998-8800.
