10GbE LAN Magnetic Modules Handle Bandwidth-Intensive Designs

Oct. 8, 2008
Bel Fuse's surface-mount S558-10GB-XX series of 10GBASE-T magnetic modules target 10Gb Ethernet data-over-copper LANs.

The S558-10GB-XX series of 10GBASE-T LAN magnetic modules target the transmission standards of 10GbE data over copper LANs. The SMT devices can handle the high bandwidth needed to support the convergence of voice/video/data networking, high-performance computing, and storage traffic in the enterprise and data center. Meeting the IEEE 802.3an requirements for operation over 100 m on CAT6A/CAT7 cabling, the devices are qualified with leading IC manufacturers’ 10GBASE-T transceivers. Electrical specifications include isolation of 1500 V rms and variable minimum primary inductance as dictated by PHY requirements. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C. The 24-pin, low-profile modules feature a 0.610- by 0.480- by 0.290-in. footprint. The RoHS-compliant parts are compatible with reflow processes up to 245°C peak. The devices also boast excellent insertion loss, return loss, and crosstalk performance. Typical applications include high-density, high-performance data services, including video over the Internet, and higher-speed network switches, routers and servers. BEL FUSE INC., Jersey City, NJ.
