Exploiting DiSEqC 2.0 decoders to eliminate external components, the MAX12005 debuts as the industry’s first 8 x 4 satellite IF switch IC that expands to accept 16 satellite input signals.  It supports a single, quad low-noise block (LNB) with vertical or horizontal polarization signals that can be matrix-switched to four satellite receivers. A configuration of eight satellite IF inputs to eight satellite receivers is also possible using two MAX12005s and adding eight input splitters. Other features include four 9:1 multiplexers with variable-gain input and -output amplifiers and two control methods: DiSEqC 2.0 and tone/voltage decoding. These controls enable four operational modes: LNB mode for use within the aforementioned LNB, cascade master mode, cascade slave mode, and single mode. Available in a 48-pin, 7 mm x 7 mm TQFN package, price starts at $7.44 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
