Frequency Synthesizer Sets Some Benchmarks

Oct. 6, 2011
Claiming best-in-class phase noise and spurious performance figures, the LTC6946 375-MHz to 6-GHz frequency synthesizer specifies a phase noise floor of -226 dBc/Hz and spurious levels of less than -100 dBc.

Claiming best-in-class phase noise and spurious performance figures, the LTC6946 375-MHz to 6-GHz frequency synthesizer specifies a phase noise floor of -226 dBc/Hz and spurious levels of less than -100 dBc. The device is a complete frequency synthesizer integrating a low phase noise VCO. Other features include an output charge pump delivering 11 mA to minimize loop compensation thermal noise low in-band 1/f Noise and a programmable output divider for a wide operating frequency range. Target apps include wireless basestations, broadband wireless access, military and secure radio, and test and measurement. LINEAR TECHNOLOGY CORP., Milpitas, CA. (800) 454-6327.
