Multi-Band 4G LTE-Only Modules Utilize Nested Designs

May 23, 2013
Ultra-compact 4G LTE modules support high-bandwidth networking and video applications.

A new line of ultra-compact 4G LTE-only modules from u-blox, the TOBY-L1 series, are targeted for tablets, mobile routers and set top boxes, as well as high-speed M2M applications such as digital signage, mobile health and security systems. LTE-only offers cost advantages compared to multi-mode modules, and are suitable for applications in networks with advanced LTE deployment. The TOBY-L100 (bands 4, 13 on Verizon) and the European variant, TOBY- L110 (bands 3, 7, 20 for EU operators) are housed in a compact 152-pin LGA module, and are layout compatible with the company’s SARA GSM and LISA UMTS/CDMA module series. The series utilizes the company’s philosophy of nested designs, supporting smooth migration between 2G-3G-4G technologies in GSM/UMTS/CDMA, while delivering ultra-fast data rates (LTE Cat. 3: 100 Mb/s download, 50 MB/s upload) and operating from –40 to +85°C. The LGA modules measure 24.8 x 35.6 x 2.8 mm and support USB 2.0 and firmware update over the air. The TOBY-L1 4G LTE module series supports high-bandwidth networking and video applications.
