Integrated Slave Transceiver Meets M-BUS Remote Metering Demands

Integrated slave transceiver for two-wire M-BUS slave devices and repeaters, provides functionality to satisfy EN 13757-2 and EN 1434-3 standards that describe physical layer requirements for remote meter reading M-BUS applications.

The NCN5150, ON Semiconductor’s new integrated slave transceiver for two-wire M-BUS slave devices and repeaters, provides all necessary functionality to satisfy the EN 13757-2 and EN 1434-3 standards that describe the physical layer requirements for remote meter reading M-BUS applications in multi-energy, heating and cooling, water and gas meters. The transceiver achieves UART communication speeds of up to 38400 baud and includes a programmable power level of up to two (SOIC-16 package) or six (QFN-20 package) unit loads which are available for use in external circuits through an integrated 3.3 V LDO regulator. Low internal power consumption makes extra power available for the sensor in the application, while low voltage bus operation (down to 9.2 V) allows operation on extended M-BUS networks. The polarity independent devices have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, and have the ability to support the powering of a slave device from either the bus or an external power supply. The RoHS-compliant NCN5150 integrated slave transceiver is priced at $1.30 each/3,000 for the SOIC-16 version, and at $1.26 each/2,500 for the QFN-20.
