Demand for high-definition multiscreen content delivery to the home and mobile devices drove Kontron to develop SYMKLOUD, an Intel-powered transcoder that offers fast, lower-cost live video delivery in the cloud for cable, mobile operators and cloud service providers. The basis of the SYMKLOUD Media modular platform is its massively scalable distributed processing. It offers H.265/HEVC delivery to mobile devices and 4k television input to the home. Up to 144 live transcoded 1080p video is possible using only 750 W, or 5.2 W per channel. The platform contains 18 fourth-generation Intel Core i7 processors, plus an integrated switch and load processor, in a 2RU-high, 21-in.-deep footprint. OpenStack provisioning and virtualization of graphic engine cores target multi-application development, such as video transcoding.
