Smart Remote Control Radio Chip Supports ZRC 2.0 Protocol

Radio chip supports voice control, motion sensing and ZigBee ZRC 2.0 protocol enabling a single remote to control all the home’s connected devices.

GreenPeak’s GP565 Smart Home radio chip for remote controls supports voice control, motion sensing and the new ZigBee ZRC 2.0 protocol, which enables a single remote to control all the home’s connected devices. The ‘IR-RF Download’ feature provides complete control of legacy audio and video equipment, either through RF4CE or infrared, with a hybrid remote control. ZRC 2.0 is fully backward compatible with existing ZRC 1.x implementations. New voice control features free users from having to deal with pressing buttons to change channels, search for programs, activate DVR and other functions. A reliable compression codec enhances throughput within the available ZigBee data rate and advanced voice recognition. Motion sensing can also enable these same kinds of management features by how the end user gestures with the remote. The radio chip is available in two versions with 120 k or 248 k Flash (and 8 k or 16 k RAM) memory. The 40-pin footprint can support a keyboard scanner interface or other IO interfaces required for remote control implementations. Also the new silicon chip provides reduced current consumption along with improved receiver sensitivity and output power. Samples of the new silicon are available today and volume shipments are expected in Q1 2015.
