802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi SoCs Enable More Connectivity Options For IoT
Two new turn-key 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi SmartConnect SoCs from Atmel, the WINC1500 and WILC1000, are optimized for battery-powered IoT applications and feature fully integrated power amplifiers. The WINC1500 is an IEEE 802.11b/g/n IoT network controller, and the WILC1000, an IEEE 802.11b/g/n IoT link controller. The SoCs, and four new modules featuring them, connect to any Atmel AVR or SMART MCU with minimal resource requirements, bringing WiFi through UART or SPI-to-WiFi interface. The SoCs feature fully integrated PA, LNA, switch and power management, and provide multiple peripheral interfaces including UART, SPI, and I2C. Their most advanced mode is single stream 1x1 802.11n, providing up to 72 Mbps PHY throughput. The only external clock source needed is a high-speed crystal or oscillator with a variety of reference clock frequencies supported (12 – 32 MHz). Both products are available either as fully-certified modules ready for production or as discrete SoCs for customers requiring flexibility designing battery-operated applications in the residential, healthcare, industrial, smart energy and wearable markets. The WILC1000 is available now as a chip and in three different modules. The WINC1500 is available now as a chip and in a module, featuring an evaluation kit and Atmel’s SAMD21 MCU.
