Notebook and desktop computers, networking routers and hubs, and telecomm switches are among the primary application areas for a new wave of logic that includes devices for double-data rate (DDR) memory modules, a family of variable reference translation voltage clamps (TVCs), and a backplane transceiver. The DDR memory module logic devices are said to be the industry’s first truly dedicated 2.5V registers. Packaged in BGAs, SSTL32867 and -32877 26-bit address-register devices are part of the firm’s DDR logic chip portfolio for use on both 184- and 210-pin DIMMs.Compatible with any voltage from 0V to 7V, the TVCs can be used, for example, as an over-voltage clamp to protect µPs and other components from power surges and spikes and to terminate a bus at practically any voltage designers require. They come in bit-widths of 22, 10, 8, 2 and 1. The SN74GTL16612A CMOS Gunning Transceiver Logic (GTL) device can, among other things, increase data throughput speeds in parallel backplane systems by a factor of two.
