Concurrent Technologies recently unveiled its Intel Core 2 Duo processor-based CompactPCI single- board computers (SBCs), which represent a performance upgrade from the PP 410/03x released earlier in the year. The PP 412/03x uses the latest mobile dual-core processor from Intel, the 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo T7400 processor, which brings greater measured performance/watt.

The PP 412/03x can access up to 4Gbytes of DDR2-400 ECC SDRAM at up to 6.4Gbytes/s. And for I/O flexibility, two highperformance PMC sites support both front and rear I/O, three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PICMG 2.16 (Ethernet fabric), PICMG 2.9 (IPMI) and PICMG 2.1 (hot swap). The SBC can operate as a system controller board, a peripheral board, or as a satellite board (blade).

The T7400 processor (in a socket) features 4Mbytes of L2 cache (shared between the cores). By using appropriate operating systems and applications software, a computing performance increase of up to twice an Intel Pentium M processor is achievable. Still, the Intel Thermal Design Power (TDP) for the 2.16GHz dual core processor is 34W versus 27W TDP for the single-core 2.0GHz Intel Pentium M processor 760 (with 2Mbytes of L2 cache).
