Hoofddorp, Netherlands: Murata enhanced the operating frequency range and reduced the footprint of its RF switch connectors to create the new SWG series. The new devices are best suited for UWB (Ultra Wideband) applications.

The SWG series of connectors, claimed to be the smallest RF switch connectors at 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.9mm, is designed to enable reliable testing of RF circuits throughout a product’s development stage up to final production. The connectors also save printed-circuit-board space in portable/handheld consumer electronics applications.

As such, the series’ small footprint will have it finding homes in mobile phones, PDAs, GPS systems, and measurement equipment. It’s compatible with Wi-Fi, WiMAX, 4G, Bluetooth, ZigBee, and UWB wireless standards.

The connectors also can serve in the inspection of RF signals up to 11GHz, enabling designers to use wider frequency bands including UWB. Furthermore, the series features low insertion loss (0.1dB max between dc and 3GHz, 0.2dB max between 3 and 6GHz, and 0.5dB max between 6 and 11GHz). Voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is 1.5 maximum.
