Preparing for the next generation of high-speed computer buses, the PulseGuard PGB series surface-mount ESD suppressor has a response time of less than 1 ns with a capacitance of just 0.055 pF. Offered as a four-channel device in a 0805 package, the component is capable of clamping direct-contact pulses up to 8 kV. In addition, it exhibits a leakage current of less than 1 nA. Typical applications for the suppressor include upstream and downstream interface circuits and USB 2.0, IEEE 1394 and InfiniBand ports and buses. It is capable of providing effective ESD protection against fast rise-time transients, the likes of which are specified in IEC 61000-4-2 and MIL-STD-883E. Electrically bipolar in design, the component allows the target system’s voltage bus to be used as a discharge path. In cases where overcurrent protection is also required, the PGB can be used in conjunction with the company’s 1206L resettable PTC with ratings up to 1.5A. Price for the PGB is $0.62 each/10,000.
