Murata Electronics claims its GRU series capacitors are the world’s thinnest embedded monolithic capacitor for substrates. Built with advanced ceramic technology, the new 0402 size capacitor, measuring only 1.0 mm x 0.5 mm x 0.15 mm, is built into the substrate for placement below integrated circuits and other electronics. The capacitor, which has a 150-µm profile, is made with a sophisticated external electrode formation to reduce the component’s thickness while simultaneously providing a capacitance of 0.1µF. The built-in feature also enhances equipment performance by reducing wiring inductance. Other benefits of the 0402-sized capacitor include a rated voltage of 6.3 VDC and X5R dielectric. The design also provides reliable connectivity via plating by utilizing copper-plated terminations that can withstand the buildup process. The GRU series (global part number GRU15YR60J104KE01*) is available for $0.05. Lead time is approximately 12 to 14 weeks. MURATA ELECTRONICS NORTH AMERICA INC., Smyrna, GA. (770) 436-1300.
