Toledo, OH-A joint marketing agreement has been signed between Owens Corning and Composite Materials, L.L.C. (Compmat) to develop markets and electronic applications for composite material solutions using conductive fibers. The agreement combines the conductive fiber technology of Compmat with the global marketing and composites systems expertise of Owens Corning. Targeted applications for development are electronic devices and systems that require EMI/RFI shielding, such as mobile phones and portable PCs. Compared to alternative shielding methods, system solutions based on conductive fibers in combination with thermoplastic resins can reportedly help OEMs and Tier One suppliers save at least 25% in production costs with certain applications, while providing added design flexibility. Under the agreement, Owens Corning will work directly with OEMs and Tier One suppliers in order to better understand their needs and the potential value of the conductive fiber solutions.
