Two newly developed, high output current photorelays employ trench gate MOS process technology--namely, the TLP3120 and TLP3542--and boast of 1.25A and 2.50A on-state currents, respectively, compared to 0.5A for previous generation devices in the company's 60V high-current photorelay family. And the devices' on resistance is a mere 0.15 ohms and 0.10 ohms, respectively. With their fast switching speed, high reliability, low power dissipation, and noise-free operation, the photorelays are said to offer an attractive alternative to electromechanical relays (EMRs), with the TLP3120 meeting the needs of high-speed test and measurement applications and TLP3542 targeted for use in data recording and testing products and applications. Power consumption for both of the photorelays is said to be 75% lower than currently available standard EMRs. The 3120 part comes in a six-pin SOP package that is priced at $3.50 each in sample quantities, while 3542 is housed in a six-pin DIP package priced at $4.00; production quantities are also currently available now.
