Packaged in a metal case measuring just 40 mm x 30 mm x 20mm, the CFPO-4 series oven-controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs) are claimed to be stable within ±0.002 ppm across an operating temperature range from -20°C to 75°C, making them suitable for global-positioning system (GPS) time-reference modules, CDMA basestations, and GSM networks. Built around SC-cut quartz crystals, the devices are available with output frequencies from 2 to 20 MHz, or up to 40 MHz for less demanding stability specifications. Standard frequencies include 4.096, 5.0, 8.192, 10.0, 13.0, 16.384 and 26.0 MHz.
Because of their smaller package, these devices are said to be significantly less costly than most oscillators in their class. Lower-stability oscillators in the series are considered to be both suitable and cost effective for SDH/SONET fixed-line switching systems, in which they manage to surpass the Stratum 3E specification by a factor of two.
The CFPO-4 devices can also be supplied with a custom footprint to meet specific requirements. Available options include operating voltages of 9, 12 and 15V and sine-wave or HCMOS outputs. Steady-state power consumption at 12V is less than 1.8W in calm air at 25°C. Pricing starts at $110 depending on specification and quantity.
