Claimed as suitable for sensing speed and position in fine-pitch targets found in demanding transmission and gear-box applications, the ATS660 is a true zero-speed differential Hall-effect sensor. Available in two highly integrated packages, the device incorporates a dual-element Hall-effect sensor and signal processing that switches in response to differential magnetic signals created by the ferrous gear teeth. Patented self-calibration circuitry nulls out the effects of installation air gap, ambient temperature and system and magnet offsets, resulting in what is said to be a high immunity to gear eccentricity and wobble. The device also features an open-collector output for direct digital interfacing. Priced at $2 each/1,000 the ATS660 has an 18-week lead-time to market.
