Targeted for use in SONET/SDH and Gigabit Ethernet transmission systems, the S3058 is a 2.5-Gbps multi-rate clock recovery and limiting amplifier fabricated in SiGe process technology. The device complies fully with Bellcore, ANSI and ITU-T specs. Its multi-rate capabilities and enhanced input sensitivity are said to make it well-suited for SONET-based optical modules. The device can process input levels as low as 3 mV with no degradation of jitter tolerance, it's claimed. A key analog feature is an LOS output with adjustable threshold. The IC supports clock recovery for Gigabit Ethernet, OC-48, OC-12 and OC-3 NRZ data.
