Approaching the size of a diode chip yet able to be handled using surface-mount technology, the firm is offering silicon varactor tuning diodes in a new Surface Mount Monolithic Package. The package design uses photolithographic methods at wafer fabrication to connect to the diode. Since the connection technique is more exact than wire bonding, it makes it possible to tightly control the parasitic package inductance. Operation is optimized at approximately 2 GHz and is possible to 10 GHz. Suited for VCXOs, two models are available. The GVD60100 has a C-V characteristic designed for low-voltage VCO applications. The GVD60200 has a characteristic suited for wide bandwidth VCO designs. Both models have high Q. Pricing is $7.75 each in single-reel (5000 piece) quantities.
