Enlarging the company’s zinc-oxide-based UltraGuard varistor series is a higher-voltage (18V) version that exhibits a lower leakage current of 1 µA maximum. The multi-layer ceramic varistors feature non-linear, bi-directional voltage-current characteristics similar to back-to-back Zener diodes with an EMC capacitor in parallel. Other features include multi-strike capabilities with the ability to survive 1,000 strikes at 15-kV contact ESD. The multilayer ceramic varistors come in discrete chips available in 0402, 0603, and 0805 sizes, two-element packages in 0405 and 0508 sizes, and four-element 0612 packages. Low and high capacitance versions are also on tap ranging from 40 pF through to 3,000 pF. Pricing starts at $0.11 each 10,000. AVX CORP. Myrtle Beach, SC. (843) 448-9411.
