Touted as an industry first, a new capacitive level sensor has been designed specifically for tubes and hoses. The TLS 100 has a clip-on mounting design that is said to reduce installation time from minutes to seconds and permit a wider adjustment band for sensitivity. This non-contact level sensor detects the presence or absence of liquids at a chosen level within plastic tubes, rubber hoses, and small glass or plastic pipes. The sensor is simply snapped onto the tube at the level users wish to monitor. Applications include the control of liquids used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, chemical mixing and detergent dispensing. It may also be used to protect pumps from running dry, by signaling when the liquid level has fallen below a pre-set value. The device is designed to measure liquids having a high dielectric, such as water-based liquids. Sensitivity is adjustable for media or different dielectrics. Aluminum mounting clips serve as the sensing electrodes, allowing measurement to occur across a wide area, increasing the adjustable sensitivity range. The standard TLS 100 fits tubes and hoses with a diameter of 9.5 mm to 11.11 mm. Other sizes can be requested. This sensor is suitable for media with operating temperatures ranging from 0°C to 90°C. The TLS 100 has a plastic housing rated at IP65 and measures just 2.3" x 1.6" x 0.8". Pricing starts around $100 in volume. E-T-A CIRCUIT PROTECTION AND CONTROL, Chicago, IL. (800) 462-9979.
