This fiber-optic headset uses a patented optical system that converts between acoustic signals and a modulated light intensity signal. Since no electrical signal is present in the headset or fiber-optic cables, the headset provides secure and interference free communications even under electrically hazardous conditions. The low light loss in the fiber allows cable lengths to 1500 meters to be used with no need for intermediate amplification. The headset can be manufactured without any metallic components. In addition to providing immunity to EMI and noise cancellation in both the microphone and headset speakers through digital signal processing, the headset is also suitable for use in the MRI environments.
