The SHT11 relative humidity and temperature sensor incorporates a variety of measurement functions, including humidity, temperature, calibration, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and a digital interface. Measuring only 7.5 by 5 by 2.5 mm, this surface-mount chip enables a two-wire interface to microprocessors without external components. The SHT11 eliminates the costly calibration and signal-conditioning processes associated with conventional relative humidity sensors. It provides high accuracy and operates from −40°C to 120°C. Response time is less than 4 s while consuming less than 0.5 mA. The SHT11 costs $12 each in 1000-unit quantities.
