The CLI700 reflective object sensor consists of an 880-nm aluminum-gallium-arsenide (AlGaAs) infrared emitter and an npn, buffered, open-collector IC. Both are mounted on a custom, four-leaded TO-72 header. The infrared emitter sends out a broad radiation pattern through a clear epoxy lens. A 0.020-in. diameter fiber-optic light pipe attached to the active area of the photo IC receives radiation reflected from the target. The CLI700 features high resistance to hostile environments, low crosstalk, and the ability to sense objects that are less than 0.010 in. in size. Hysteresis supplied by the on-chip Schmitt trigger ensures high noise immunity. The threshold current is 7.0 mA maximum when measured with a Kodak 90% diffuse reflectance neutral white test card at a distance of 0.03 in. from the device lens. The sensor has an operating-temperature range from −40°C to 100°C. In 1000-unit quantities, the CLI700 is priced at $9.10 each. Delivery is within four weeks.
