    A new family of devices has been developed for protecting household appliances, power supplies, and other electronic products from a short circuit or high fault current. The circuit protectors interrupt current flow by melting a wire element, causing an irreversible separation of the element. They are said to offer highly defined cut-off times, low internal resistance, stable characteristics under varying ambient temperatures, and a flame-resistant encapsulated casing.
