Single-mode fiber cable and interconnect components have been added to the line of premises networking products in the Volition Network Solution. Based on the existing VF-45 connector technology available for multimode fiber, the Volition single-mode system is suited for use in network backbones. It consists of: patch cords; 2-, 4-, 6-, 12-, 24- and 48-fiber single-mode cables; and the VF-45 plug and socket, which installs in less than two minutes per two-fiber socket. The duplex, ferrule-less interface can be installed using the same installation tooling as the VF-45 multimode connectors, eliminating the need to purchase new equipment or to learn new installation techniques. The single-mode VF-45 connector is said to offer a yield of 98% or greater using a simple mechanical connection that completely eliminates ferrules. The socket costs the same as the multimode unit.
